Visit Hickory, N.C. and experience arts and history as only the Catawba Valley can display. The Hickory Metro’s arts scene is thriving, featuring an eclectic combination of local galleries, performing arts venues, art events and even the second-oldest art museum in the state – the Hickory Museum of Art.

Music is also a part of life in western North Carolina and you’ll find plenty of theatres and venues to take in a show or tap your feet to talented local musicians. The Hickory Choral Society and Western Piedmont Symphony will delight audiences with renditions of classical music.

Hickory, North Carolina historical attractions include museums, historical homes and neighborhoods, a one-of-a-kind covered bridge, and a 19th century mill complex. The Council organizes and sponsors art exhibits, arts and cultural programming and placement of professional artists in public schools for a one-week residency.

Caldwell Arts Council

Featuring a gallery with changing exhibits, the Council organizes and sponsors a national sculpture competition annually and organizes arts programming throughout the year.

 

Catawba Valley Community College Show Choir

This group performs concerts each year, including a Christmas Concert, a Valentine Dinner Theatre and a Spring Spectacular.  Choreographed Broadway, movie musicals and other musical styles are featured.

National and regional shows, performers and entertainers are showcased on stage at the City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium.  The auditorium seats 1,058 people and is fully equipped with up-to-date sound and lighting systems.

The Green Room Community Theatre

Hickory Choral Society

Hickory Museum of Art

Founded in 1944, this is the second-oldest art museum in the state.  Enjoy works from the permanent collection, as well as traveling exhibitions, art classes, workshops, tours and lectures.

Located in Lenoir, this civic center, which is operated under the auspices of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, features a 1,000-seat auditorium with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, as well as conference and banquet facilities.

Playmakers offers main state productions in November and April, and a February presentation alternating yearly between children’s theatre and a student showcase event.  All plays are staged in the college’s Belk Centrum.

The college invites authors to read from their own works in a relaxed environment.  Children’s writers, mystery writers, essayists, poets and novelists all participate in this celebration of the written and spoken word.

Bunker Hill Covered Bridge (1894)

Maple Grove

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Maple Grove is a restored Italinate-style house built in 1883.  Self-guided tour.

Murray’s Mill

Old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

This Second Empire-style cottage built in 1883 is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  House Beautiful referred to this home as a “Victorian gem.”

Quaker Meadows

Built in 1812 by Captain Charles McDowell, Jr., this historic home has been restored and is open for visitors.  Owned and operated by Historic Burke Foundation, it is an outstanding example of vernacular federal style architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
