Each year the Chamber Orchestra (a smaller version of the full orchestra)
goes "on the road" to bring concerts to nearly 30,000 public, private and
home-schooled children in four Hickory metro area counties. Popular
"Rug Concerts" and "Silver Serenades" delight both young and old when
performed by WPS's resident string quartet - Degas Quartet - one of only
two resident string quartets in North Carolina. Degas Quartet also is the
featured performer for the UBS Financial Services Chamber Classics Series
held in the Arts & Science Center of Catawba. Also under the sponsorship
of the Western Piedmont Symphony is a Youth Symphony that provides
performance opportunities for gifted amateur musicians.
